Douglass to share experience in Africa with community

Jackson Community College Associate Professor Ronald L. Douglass will present an open community forum on his recent trip to Ghana, Africa at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in the Ruth Day Theatre, Potter Center.

Douglass traveled to Africa over spring break to study African music and culture. He was in Ghana for nearly two weeks and studied with master drummers at the National Theatre in the capital Accra, and worked with drum maker Alfred Owusu learning more about how the drums are crafted out of logs. He hoped to learn more about how the drums are played so he can be authentic and share correct technique with students in his African Drum Ensemble.

Douglass will share his experiences and some video footage he took while in Africa.  This event is free and the public is invited.
