Capital City Brass added to schedule for Front Porch Concert Series

Enjoy great music in a fun outdoor setting when Jackson Community College presents the Front Porch Concert Series, a free event for the whole family!

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy one of the four concerts planned. These concerts are fun, free, accessible and guaranteed – activities will move indoors in case of inclement weather.  This year’s concerts include:

·        June 8 – Trombonefest, 7 p.m. This marks the 24th year of this truly unique musical event when trombonists from all over Michigan, as well as the rest of the U.S., gather here in Jackson to share their passion for the trombone. The music will include beautiful ensemble selections from the classics, as well popular music and jazz.  A special tribute to the teaching of Bob Spencer will also make this year’s “T-Fest” a memorable evening.

·        June 19 – Capital City Brass, 7 p.m. The Capital City Brass Band (CCBB) is an all-volunteer brass and percussion ensemble inspired by the traditional British-style brass band model.

·        June 26 – Summer Band Camp Finale Concert, 7 p.m. JCC welcomes young musicians who are pre-high school age to band camp every summer.  Hear these young artists in a finale performance!

·        July 1 – Pre-Fourth of July Concert, Jackson Community Concert Band, 7 p.m. Hear a variety of favorites of American music, including the baseball favorite “Pastime” to “Candide” to Aaron Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody, from Appalachian Spring,” and finishing with what has become an American Fourth of July tradition, Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”

Concerts are free and the public is welcome. Barbecue dinner will be available to buy for concert-goers beginning about a half hour before the performance and running through the show, weather permitting.  Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
