Volleyball benefit raises $1,800 for cancer research
Jackson Community College’s women’s volleyball team raised more than $1,800 to go toward breast cancer research in the team’s benefit match Friday against Siena Heights University.
Coach Leigh Ann Swihart said she was very pleased with the turnout and contributions raised with this first charity event by the women’s volleyball team. There were a number of cancer survivors and family members present, and team members took time out to call a woman they knew over 40 and remind them about getting a mammogram.
“We were hoping to raise awareness and help a very worthy cause, which I think we did,” Swihart said. “We will try to make this an annual event.”
