Computer Technology
JCC provides computer accounts, lab areas, and assistance from trained student lab consultants.
Accounts
JCC proves each student with the following accounts:
- Network account gives you the ability to log in to campus technology, printing, software, file storage that is backed up and Internet access.
- e-Services allows you to register online, check your student schedule, access your grades and transcripts, and check on your financial aid.
- JetNet provides support for your courses with Internet mail, discussion boards, coursework submission, coursework files, tests and gradebooks.
- E-mail provides the ability to send and receive messages to and from @my.jccmi.edu addresses.
Your e-Services account is ready the next business day after you register and remains active for two years after you finish taking courses at JCC. Your other JCC accounts are available to you on the first day of your classes after you have registered and are disabled after your classes end for the semester.
User ID for students: The first seven letters of your last name, the first seven letters of your first name, and your middle initial (771). Your initial password is the first letter of your first name (capitalized), the first initial of your last name (not capitalized), the day you were born, the last two numbers for the year you were born, and the last four digits of your JCC Student ID number. Once you login, you will change your password. Make note of this, as we can only reset your password back to the default or e-mail your password to the e-mail we have on file. For password assistance, call the Solution Center, 517.796.8639. Instructions are online at www.jccmi.edu/infotech/students.htm, the click on “Change Password.”
Email log in for students: The username format for logging into My Student Email is the first seven letters of your last name, first seven letters of your first name, and your middle initial followed by @my.jccmi.edu. Example: If your name were Jane Anita Smithson, you're username would be: smithsojanea@my.jccmi.edu. Your initial password for your e-mail is the same default password used to log into e-Services.
Labs
Computer access is available primarily in William Atkinson Hall, featuring an Information Commons area on the main floor of the library. In addition to the stationary computers, printers, and scanners, laptop computers are available for check-out and use within Atkinson Hall.
Additionally, computers without printers are available in the Cyber Café of Potter Center by the cafeteria, the McDivitt Café in McDivitt Hall and in Whiting Hall. Computers are also available in the Center for Student Success for use with tutors. Computers at the LeTarte Center, Hillsdale and JCC @ LISD TECH are available around course times. Check the most current times posted at each Center.
Assistance
Student computer consultants, on duty in Atkinson Hall and at each computer class room, will assist you with technical problems, both hardware and software. JCC supports the Microsoft® Office® suite. If you use other word processing software, we suggest you save your files as rich text format (*.rtf). Most JCC computers have a CD and a USB port, but not floppy or zip drives. Frequently Asked Questions about technology are available at www.jccmi.edu/infotech/general.htm.
