Service Learning MissionMission of The JCC Center for Service Learning & Civic EngagementThe mission of JCC'ss Office of Service Learning & Civic Engagement is to create an environment and infrastructure that facilitates and supports the integration of service learning methodology across the curriculum, leading to civically engaged students. The mission is accomplished through the following initiatives:Incorporate Service-Learning into CourseworkWork with faculty individually and through formal training to incorporate service learning into existing courses leading to improved student training. Build Community PartnershipsEnhance established partnerships and work within the community to develop new partnerships by addressing identified community needs and by connecting students to community partners. Secure Financial SupportSeek outside funding that complements the college's service learning budget. This funding would provide training to staff and faculty, financial assistance to students supporting their participation in these activities (i.e. mileage and child care reimbursement), student scholarships to attend leadership forums, recognition activities and promotion of the Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement. Offer Opportunities to Become Civically EngagedMeet with students through a variety of avenues to communicate opportunities and activities that will assist students in becoming better citizens. These activities will help students understand the need to give back to their communities. |
