New Student Orientation

Advising and Registration

Meet with an Advisor to review your educational plan, select courses, and receive information about registering for classes.

Welcome to Jackson Community College and to YOUR Welcome/Orientation Day information hub! The 2008 theme, is “Of Course I’m Fly… I’m a JCC Jet!” This translates to “I’m cool, I’m a JCC Jet!”

JCC is ever changing and growing and whether you are 18 or 48… first time college student or a returner… we believe attending an Orientation is a first step in your Success!

In order to best meet the needs of the incoming class, a committee has spent time in reviewing prior Orientation schedules and developed the current Welcome Day format.

Your Welcome Day will include a Resource Fair (local businesses and campus/community organizations), interactive presentations and a time for you to “choose your own adventure” (you select the session/topic you attend). And, most importantly… you will meet individuals and learn about campus resources that are available to assist you during your time at Jackson Community College!

Top 10 Reasons to make YOUR WELCOME DAY a priority:

  1. Able to meet new people.
  2. It’s an opportunity to gain tips from upper-class students!
  3. Locate buildings and classrooms before day 1
  4. First hand, you get to see how “this JCC” is not your parents JCC.
  5. Able to network with campus and community organizations and local businesses.
  6. Refreshments provided!
  7. Meet College Employees that can help you succeed in your upcoming year.
  8. Chance to win free stuff!
  9. It will be fun and informational
  10. It is a first step to a successful college career!

Why is it “Fly to be a Jet…”

  1. Teachers care about you, they care if you succeed in class but also about your other classes. They know you by name.
  2. Small classes, you get that one on one attention from instructors.
  3. Opportunities to get involved: sports, on campus activities (campus clean up, bake sales), clubs (Parliament, Drama Club, Phi Theta Kappa, etc).
  4. JCC offers many types of financial aid! Federal pell grants, work study program, JCC Foundation Scholarships and much more!
  5. If you need help with classes and seek it out… you’ll get it! Don’t be afraid to ask. There are tutors, professors have office hours where you can ask for help. The Center for Student Success is also a great place to get help and meet people… their office is located in Bert Walker.
  6. Student Employment opportunities are available through Human Resources in the Potter Center.
  7. Staff members in Student Services (located in Bert Walker) are very helpful. They help with registering for classes, financial aid information, advisors.
  8. You don’t have to pay for a parking pass!
  9. If you want to live on campus… you can!
  10. JCC IS a “real college…” with student life, campus housing, GREAT technology resources, the ability to check out a laptop while on campus….
