This is only a guide.  Students should contact the Department of Special Education as soon as they think they are interested in this area.  The contact person is Dr. Lidia Lee lidia.lee@emich.edu  at 734.487.3300.  That office can help you identify your area of interest and will know of availability of spaces in each program area.  The program areas are emotionally impairment (EI),  hearing impairment (HI), cognitive impairment (CI) , physical impairment and health impairment (POHI), speech and language impairment (SLI), and visual impairment (VL).  Learning disabilities is a graduate-level program.

Students should plan to transfer at the end of the equivalent of the full-time freshmen year.  There are many specific courses in this program which are not offered at JCC which can be taken prior to admission into the program.  All students must pass the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Basic Skills, but criteria of admission varies depending of area of specialty so students need to contact EMU.
