This is only a guide.  Students should contact the transfer school for program advising.

·         Bachelor of Arts Degree - Courses as listed below plus a twelve-hour competency in a foreign language. Completing the fourth semester of a foreign language fulfills this requirement.

·         Bachelor of Science Degree - Courses as below including a heavy emphasis on laboratory science and mathematics courses to total 36 hours.

Note: Students do not need to complete all the courses listed below before transferring.

  • their English 101 (Freshmen Rhetoric and the Great Books I) and English 102 (Freshmen Rhetoric and the Great Books II). Although our ENG 131 and ENG 132 will transfer for credit it is NOT recommended students be advised to take these courses unless they have weak composition skills.

  • their History 104 (The Western Heritage to 1600) and History 105 (The American Heritage). JCC history courses do NOT fulfill this requirement.

Elementary Provisional Teaching Certificate Requirements

1.       A major field of concentration that consists of no fewer than 30 credit hours in English, history, or mathematics; or no fewer than 37 credit hours in integrated science.

2.       A minor field of concentration of no fewer than 20 credit hours in French, German, Spanish or English, history, or mathematics (if not chosen as a major); or no fewer than 24 credit hours in art, physical education, music or integrated science (if not chosen as a major).

 

The pre-requisite course worked that is needed for Admission to the Teacher Education Program is the successful completion of all collegiate course work, including the courses taken at Hillsdale.  Contact Hillsdale College for the list of pre-requisite courses.  Students must successfully complete all collegiate course work with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.700 and approval by the Education Advisory Committee.  Students who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.000 or higher will be admitted to the Teacher Education Program without needing the approval of the Education Advisory Committee.  

 

Students must complete all three parts of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification Basic Skills Test prior to admission to the program. Because of the courses which must be completed at Hillsdale it is recommended students transfer after completing one year at JCC.

 

A minimum of 124 credits is required for graduation. A maximum of 62 credits may be transferred from JCC. Course work with a grade of at least 2.0 will be transferable.
