EMS 171 Paramedic Skill Lab: II (2 CR)
(FORMERLY EMS 225 WITH EMS 170, EMS 172 AND EMS 173)
This course is designed to provide the paramedic student with the skills
as prescribed by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) for the
paramedic curriculum. This course includes skill practice and scenarios
(both computer and classroom).
- By the completion of EMS 171 the paramedic candidate will be able to demonstrate entry level psychomotor competency in fields of study such as; trauma patient assessment, 12 Lead EKG Administration and interpretation, critical and chronic care transports - equipment and protocols, drug calculations, and medication administration.
Measurement of Objective
- Student must actively participate in daily lab activities and receive a “competent” score on affective behavior evaluation of Self-Motivation. Student is evaluated 3 times per semester.
- Student must actively support their team members in daily lab activities and receive a “competent” score on affective behavior evaluation for Teamwork and Diplomacy. Student is evaluated 3 times per semester.
- Successful completion of EMS 171 will lead to progression as a Paramedic candidate for psychomotor certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Completion of this course will meet requirements for entry into EMS 245.
