EMS 245 Paramedic Clinical Internship
This course is designed to provide the field internship as prescribed
by Michigan Department of Transportation and the requirements of the
Michigan Department of Community Health paramedic curriculum. This course
is the last course taken as part of the paramedic program. This course
includes clinical rotations at ambulance services as the lead paramedic
under the supervision of a field paramedic. Students are expected to
complete their clinical competencies during this class. In addition,
classroom time is scheduled to review clinical procedures and review
progress of the students. This course includes up to eight hours of
medical simulation to help achieve any missing paramedic competencies.
- By the completion of EMS 245 the paramedic candidate will have demonstrated entry level cognitive and psychomotor competency in the clinical setting in the field of study such as; exemplify professional behavior including, but not limited to, integrity, empathy, self-motivation, personal hygiene, self-confidence, communications, time management, teamwork, diplomacy, respect, patient advocacy, and careful delivery of service.
Measurement of Objective
- Student will demonstrate professional attributes of a practicing healthcare provider. Student must demonstrate regard for patient diversity and professional best practices during clinical internship and receive a positive clinical affective evaluation.
- Student will actively participate in direct patient care acting as lead Paramedic. Student will perform as lead EMS provider for 50 patient encounters. Student must obtain 50 documented lead provider cases to be successful.
- Successful completion of EMS 245 will lead to progression as a Paramedic candidate for certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Completion of this course will meet requirements for course completion document and be recommended for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians psychomotor and cognitive examination. Successful completion of the psychomotor and cognitive examination will lead to certification as a national EMS provider.

EMS 174, and EMS 176.
