JACKSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE
For Transfer to Michigan State University
COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCE/SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK
Bachelor of Arts - Social Work
About the program...
The
Social Work (SW) program admits 55 students and no longer gives preference
to native students. Currently, if a student meets the requirements of
the program they will be admitted. The SW application process is
basically a two-step process. Students apply to the Michigan State
University and admissions personnel perform a review for initial admissions
eligibility. Students should apply in early September. Once the
candidate is determined to have met the initial criteria, the file is given
a WSWK (Withhold Social Work) decision and is forwarded the Supplemental
Application for Social Work. This would arrive in December. The
applicant completes the supplemental application and returns it to the
School of Social Work and an admit decision is made.
The
prerequisite course work includes seven (7) courses:
PSY 140, SOC 231, ECN 231 or 232, BIO 132, PLS 141, any 200-level psychology
course, and SW 200: Introduction to Social Work (to be completed at MSU or
LCC).
It is strongly recommended that you complete your math competency prior
to transferring.

the student is admitted into the program, courses are available at nights
and the program can be completed by students going part-time. There
are many placements available in Jackson. Of course, most placement
work would be during the day.
A
total of 120 credits is required for completion of the degree. A maximum of 60
hours will transfer to MSU. Completion of this guidesheet will meet most of
the lower level Integrative Studies program.
