Board of Trustees re-elects officers for term

January 14, 2021

Jackson College’s Board of Trustees organized for the new term at Monday’s meeting, preparing for continued leadership in the ongoing pandemic and beyond.

Three officers were re-elected from the previous two years: Sam R. Barnes, chairperson; John M. Crist, vice-chairperson, and Sheila A. Patterson, secretary. Completing the seven-member board are Matthew R. Heins, Philip E. Hoffman, Donna L. Lake and Dr. Edward A. Mathein. Trustees are elected at large from the community for staggered six-year terms. Barnes, Heins, and Patterson were re-elected in November 2020.

“I am pleased to have fellow officers Secretary Sheila Patterson and Vice Chair John Crist serve with me for the coming two years. Our priority in the near term is to continue to adapt so we can deliver our mission despite the pandemic,” Barnes said. “I am excited about our recent efforts to double down on Policy Governance which defines and guides appropriate relationships between Jackson College’s stakeholders, its Board of Trustees, and its chief executive, Dan Phelan. The end result of adapting to change and committing to better governance is to deliver on our promise of Total Commitment to Student Success. Go Jets!”

The Board of Trustees meets 10 times throughout the year, at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month, unless otherwise noted. For a schedule of meetings for 2021 and how to attend, visit jccmi.edu/board-of-trustees/meetings.
