Mr. Doug Jones, an American visual artist, Jackson College adjunct instructor and Jackson resident, will paint live the night of our event. He will recreate a version of the Glidden Parker Mural that is currently housed at CP Federal Square in downtown Jackson. The artwork will be a triptych (two of the pieces will be painted prior to the auction) that may be purchased as single panels or all three as a group. Mr. Jones is known regionally for his various styles that include graffiti and a Superflat-superstroke hybrid. He is a 2018-2019 Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History Emerging Contemporary Artist (Detroit). On May 28, 2017, Mr. Jones fulfilled a two-year mayoral appointment to the Jackson Public Arts Commission. Recently unveiled at CP Federal Square in downtown Jackson, the Glidden Parker mural tells the history of electricity in Jackson. JPAC worked with various organizations at the local and national levels to restore the mural. In the spirit of commonwealth, Jones designed three separate paintings for this year’s gala event. A Jackson native, he hopes these works will honor the dedication of Jackson’s most innovative leaders in the development and promotion of public arts.
