Jets baseball qualifies for regionals! First game Thursday

Strong batting has led the Jackson College Jets baseball team to second place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with a 17-5 conference record, 26-9-1 overall.

Regionals begin May 13 at the higher seed’s location in a best out of three first round.  “The Jets are jelling at the right time during the season,” said head Coach Rick Smith. “The team has great leadership, and the players are playing for each other. So glad the players are able to have a season this year to grab hold of memorable experiences and become Jets forever!”

Coming off a winning weekend, the Jets downed Macomb CC in four games Friday and Saturday, 11-1, 18-3, 10-0, and 12-6. In Friday’s game 1, designated hitter Max Stevenson had 2 hits, 1 run and 3 RBI, while shortstop Devon Nettles had 2 hits and 2 runs. Pitcher Riley Vermander took the win. In Friday’s second game, the Jets came out strong and didn’t let up, scoring 5, 8 and 4 in the first three innings. Nettles had 4 hits, 4 runs and 4 RBI, while Nick Farkas also had 4 RBI including a home run. The Jets Matt Scally and Dominic VanDoorne both had 3 RBI, Stevenson, 2 and Dawson Groch, 1. Pitcher Justin Gelso got the win for the Jets.

Saturday’s first game was a shutout 10-0. Connor Davis had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Jets, Groch and Michael Tchavdarov both had 2 RBI and 1 hit, and Farkas and Cameron Schroeder each had 1 RBI. Pitcher Alexander Billo took the win.  In Saturday’s second game, Davis and Tchavdarov each had 2 RBI with Stevenson, VanDoorne, Farkas, Austin Sature and Scally each adding 1 RBI. Groch was the winning pitcher.

On Tuesday, the Jets defeated Henry Ford College in two, 11-3 and 6-2. In the first game, Dawson Groch had 3 hits and 2 RBI, Teddy Wagner had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Nettles had 2 RBI, Stevenson and Davis each had 1 RBI. Jack Elkins was the winning pitcher. In the second game, Tchavdarov had 2 RBI while Nettles, Wagner and Davis each had 1 RBI. Noah Stants was winning pitcher.

Wednesday, the Jets continued their winning streak, taking two again over Henry Ford, 7-6 and 7-4. They will wind up the regular season Saturday against Mott Community College.

Update:

Jets baseball ended its season Friday after splitting two games with Kalamazoo Valley CC in the quarterfinal Thursday and then dropping Friday’s game to KVCC. They finish the season with a 21-7 conference record, 31-13-1 overall record.
