Women’s basketball coach recognized by BCAM
May 19, 2022
Congratulations to Jackson College women’s basketball coach Heather Brown, recently named Junior College Coach of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM).
After taking a one year pause in competition during the 2020-21 season due to covid-19, Heather Brown led her team to the top of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) by sharing the Western Conference title for the 2021-22 season. This marks Coach Brown’s sixth season as the head coach at Jackson College. The Jets concluded the year with a 19-7 overall record and clinched a berth in the NJCAA Great Lakes District A tournament. “I was nicely surprised to get selected as coach of the year,” Brown said. “The team we had showed they could find a way to win through adversity.”
Under Heather Brown’s guidance the Jackson Jets women’s basketball team had several players receive post season honors including freshman Zaria Bridgewater to the All-Region, All-MCCAA, Western Conference 1st team and the All-Freshman team.
“The season went well for the team regardless of the ups and downs we had. We had a small team and picked up some walk-ons from our soccer team to help with the numbers,” Brown said. “That helped as they brought great team chemistry and energy. I’m very proud of how they worked, finishing tied for first place. Next is just to build off what we have and to get our numbers up.”
