Music, marching & fun on playlist for Summer Band Camp!
May 4, 2018
Young musicians are invited to join in 10 full days of music, marching and fun! Jackson College will host a Summer Band Camp program weekdays from June 21 – July 4. Students will experience musical and marching instruction and culminate with participation in the Hanover-Horton Fourth of July Parade!
Young musicians who are beginning- to fourth-year band students, ages 8 and up, are invited to participate (those with younger children with prior experience may contact Director Dan Bickel to discuss options). Campers will benefit from guided instructional time to improve on their instruments while playing a variety of fun literature, technical exercises, “board songs” (“I Like to Move It,” “7-Nation Army,” “Agent P.” and requests possible), as well as the basics of marching. There will be full concert band rehearsals, small-group sessions and marching sessions daily. High school musicians interested in pursuing secondary instruments are also invited to attend. Note names, scales, reading music and fingerings will become easier, making future musical experiences more rewarding.
Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day in the Ruth Day Theatre, Potter Center on Jackson College’s Central Campus. Cost is $75 per student for all 10 days. Breakdown of the schedule is as follows:
- June 21-22, Camp Kickoff, Thursday & Friday
- June 25-30, Monday-Friday
- July 2-4, Monday-Wednesday, ending with parade performance in Hanover
Parents, high school instrumentalists and college students who are able to sit in with the group or lead sectionals may contact Director Dan Bickel, firstname.lastname@example.org. High schoolers can often use the time to count as volunteer hours toward graduation or other volunteering requirements.Register for Summer Band Camp
