Percussion Concussion 2023

Thursday, Nov. 2
7:30 p.m.
Potter Center Harold Sheffer Music Hall

Get ready for a fun-filled evening of rhythms, showmanship, and fun at this year’s Percussion Concussion! Tickets are $10 and will be available from the Potter Center Box Office or at the door. There will be T-shirts available for $15 or two for $25 at the event.

The Detroit Lions Drumline will dazzle the audience, provide pre-show clinics for 12 high school drumlines, and close the show with a bang! Local high school drumline performances will showcase the talents of Jackson High, Northwest, Western High, Michigan Center, Columbia Central, Springport, Napoleon, Lumen Christi, Addison, The George Crockett Academy, Mason, and Vandercook Lake drumlines.

This event also serves as a recruiting tool for the JC Drumline, which is set to pick back up in January for those who long for the drumline traditions linked to the fall. Jack Tallman, a Jackson native and Western High graduate who participated in the first Percussion Concussion himself in 2010, now leads the Jackson College drumline. “I think this event is a positive thing for the Jackson Community in that so many local groups attend and cheer each other on,” Tallman said. “I also think that getting to do workshops with professional musicians such as the Lions Drumline is a very rare opportunity, so having the Percussion Concussion bring everyone together is special.”

Tallman, now also a member of the Lions Drumline, enjoys the rehearsal process with the separate groups leading up to the Percussion Concussion. “This entire activity has given so much to me, so it is the greatest honor possible to get to come to teach something that was so formative to me.”
