Ruben Studdard Sings Luther Vandross, Always and Forever, at Potter Center

April 7, 2018

An “American Idol” favorite pays tribute to a legend when Ruben Studdard Sings Luther Vandross, Always and Forever, coming to the Potter Center stage for one show only, 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018.

In the 13 years since he brightened the world of pop music with his American Idol-winning romantic ballads, Ruben Studdard has warmed the hearts of millions! This R & B, pop and gospel singer has built a huge fan base, recording five albums and touring with the likes of Peabo Bryson, Melissa Manchester, CeCe Winans and David Foster. His smooth voice has earned him accolades and the nickname “The Velvet Teddy Bear” (from Gladys Knight, no less). He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003 for Best Male R & B Vocal Performance.

Growing up in Alabama, Studdard put aside a possible career in football to major in music. After graduating from Alabama A & M in 2000, he auditioned for “Idol” on a whim in 2002. Dubbed “the next Luther,” Studdard had included some of Vandross’s monster hits on the six previous studio albums he has released since 2003.

Enjoy this special evening as Studdard sings a selection of Luther Vandross songs, including some of the R & B legend’s greatest hits, such as “A House is Not a Home,” “Superstar,” and “Here and Now.”

Tickets for an Evening of Luther Vandross performed by Ruben Studdard, at 7 p.m. April 21, 2018, are $40, $35 and $32. They may be purchased by calling the Potter Center Box Office at 517.796.8600, or online at
