Student panel to explore progress toward MLK’s dream

January 11, 2023

To celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackson College will be hosting a student panel discussion dedicated to further exploring the theme, “Drum Major for Justice, Peace and Righteousness,” also the theme of Saturday’s M.L. King Celebration. All are invited to this free discussion, taking place on Monday, Jan. 16 at 12 noon in Room 144 of Bert Walker Hall on Central Campus.

Jackson College student speakers will include Arianna Ferguson, Christina Cocker, Wiona Kennedy and Izaia Williams. Staff members Tiffany Thomas and Drew Monroe will moderate.

“As we celebrate and honor Dr. King’s legacy, the most significant impact must be on our youth today,” said Kelly Crum, chief diversity officer and director of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging for JC. “Youth voices and perspectives are crucial in how they view Dr. King’s legacy and how to advocate to move our nation forward in challenges surrounding racial justice, economic equality, social change, and justice.”
