English as a Second Language – Testing Information
What if English is not my first (native) language?
If English is not your first (native) language, then you should begin with the Accuplacer ESL test.
What is the Accuplacer ESL test?
The Accuplacer ESL test is a computerized assessment of your skills in English reading, grammar, and listening. There are four parts to the test:
- ESL Reading measures your skills in reading and understanding English.
- ESL Language Use measures skill in using correct grammar in English sentences.
- ESL Sentence Meaning measures how well you understand the meaning of words and sentences in English.
- ESL Listening Skills measures your ability to understand one or more people speaking in English.
Students will need to provide their driver’s license, state ID, current high school ID, or current passport. Headphones will be supplied for the Listening Skills portion of the test.
What happens when I finish the Accuplacer ESL test?
At the end of the test, you will get a copy of your score report. Your navigator will help you decide what courses to take. Remember the test helps you determine your skills in English.
