Your Voice: Sexual assault topic of Monday forum
February 1, 2018
Sexual assault on college campuses continues to make headlines. Jackson College invites students to come together at 4 p.m. Monday in Bert Walker Hall, Room 145, for a discussion, “Your Voice: Sexual Assault on Campuses.”
Cases at Michigan State University and others across the nation have brought sexual assault on college campuses to the forefront. Sexual violence on campus impacts students of all gender identities. Some estimates show that as many as one in four females will be the victim of sexual assault on campus by the time they finish college. Victims of sexual assault may suffer short- and long-term health problems, such as sexually transmitted diseases, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, chronic illness and post-traumatic stress disorder. Victims’ academic achievement may be impacted.
Students may join in a facilitated discussion with Student Life Director Chas Lietaert about this important topic. “We want to get students together and to give them a space to have a voice on this important topic,” Lietaert said.
The event is free and all students and employees are welcome.
