Home / Academics / Credit for Prior Learning / Credit by Examination Credit by Examination Jackson College allows students to earn college credit by demonstrating their knowledge and skills through a Credit by Examination process. This can include written exams, oral exams, portfolio reviews, lab projects, computer programs, or timed writings, depending on the course. Credit by Examination is granted for courses at Jackson College and may not transfer to other colleges or universities. To be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), prospective students must first apply to Jackson College and receive a student ID number. Credit for prior learning cannot be awarded until these steps are completed. Important Information: You are allowed one attempt per course. Credit by cxamination cannot be used to repeat a course. A grade of 2.0 or higher is required to earn credit, and any associated fees must be paid before credits are posted to your transcript. Credits earned through this process will appear as “CR/EX” on your transcript, not as a letter grade. Next steps Ready to get started? Below are the steps you should take to apply for credit based on your prior learning. Step 1: Determine if You Qualify Consider your prior learning or experience. Do you believe you have a strong understanding of a subject that might qualify for college credit? Step 2: Complete and Submit Form If you believe you qualify, complete the Credit by Exam form. Once it’s filled out, submit it to the relevant Academic Department for review. Credit by examination form Step 3: Take the Test and Get Your Credit After the Academic Department reviews and approves your form, they’ll arrange for you to take the exam. Once you successfully complete the test, the earned credit will be added to your academic record.
