Health Clinic, Justin Whiting Hall

A campus health clinic offers acute care services to college students and employees, located in Justin Whiting Hall, Room 111.

    Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, closed Fridays. Cost is $5 for students, $10 for employees. Consumables such as vaccinations extra. While the clinic does not accept insurance, they can provide receipts so patients may submit to their insurance companies for reimbursement.

    For after-hours care, use your local urgent care or emergency room for healthcare issues.

Oasis center

Mental Health

Oasis Center, Justin Whiting Hall

The Oasis Center offers a wide range of behavioral health services to students and employees in Justin Whiting Hall, Room 110.

    Working in partnership with Family Service and Children’s Aid (FSCA), licensed mental health and substance abuse clinicians will provide support at the center, or assist in obtaining services at the FSCA office in downtown Jackson. Clinicians may help with stress management, depression, anxiety, alcohol or drug use, life transitions, relationship issues and much more. The Oasis navigator can assist students with identifying needs and connecting them with appropriate community resources and support.

    Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, by appointment Fridays and evenings. Cost is $5 for students, $10 for employees. After hours, FSCA offers an answering service to connect you with an on-call clinician; call 517.787.7920.

Dental Clinic

Dental Hygiene

Dental Clinic, Justin Whiting Hall

College students, employees and community members may utilize the services of the new Dental Clinic, Justin Whiting Hall, Room 104.

    This clinic allows college students studying dental hygiene to gain clinical experience and practice necessary for their studies. Preventive services such as dental cleanings, x-rays, fluoride treatments and more are available. Please plan on extra time as students are learning and work under supervision.

    Cost for a dental cleaning is $30 for adults, $25 for senior citizens, $10 for college employees and $5 for college students. Appointments are necessary; call 517.990.1311 or 517.990.1463.

Food Assistance/Hunger

Jackson College Food Pantry

Jackson College offers a Food Pantry of non-perishable food products that is open to all currently enrolled JC students and employees.

    To utilize the food pantry, please make an appointment by e-mailing jcfoodpantry@jccmi.edu. Students or employees can also stop into the Center for Student Success, Bert Walker Hall, Room 138. For access, just walk up to the Center’s front desk during these hours:

    • Monday  3-5:30 p.m.
    • Tuesday 12:30-4:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday  3-5:30 p.m.
    • Thursday 12:30-4:30 p.m.
    • Friday 1-3:30 p.m.
    • Other times by appointment.

     
    The food pantry is supported by donations from the Jackson College community. To donate nonperishable food items, contact jcfoodpantry@jccmi.edu.

    A limited number of food service cards and “JetPack” cards are available in the Center for Student Success. JetPack allows students to purchase three food items for $3 from WAva Joe’s in Atkinson Hall. Please ask at the Center for Student Success in Bert Walker Hall.

Financial Emergency

Harriet Myer Student Emergency Fund

Funding is available to provide one-time unforeseen emergencies that would otherwise prevent students from continuing their education at Jackson College.

    Friends of the College as well as employees, their families, and others who are interested in helping students succeed have donated funds to the Harriet Myer Student Emergency Fund, administered by the Jackson College Foundation. When funding is available, grants are provided to meet one-time unforeseen emergencies that would otherwise prevent students from continuing their education at Jackson College.

    Students should not contact the Foundation directly for an emergency grant. A professor/instructor, a counselor or student navigator must refer a student. The student must complete the application and submit it to the Financial Aid Department for approval. Proof of financial hardship may be required.

    • Please note that application for support does not guarantee funds will be awarded.

Transportation Issues

Public transportation is available for students attending Central Campus and W.J. Maher Campus. Students can take advantage of reduced bus fares offered through Jackson Transportation Authority (JTA).

    Students can take advantage of reduced bus fares offered through Jackson Transportation Authority (JTA). JTA operates a special schedule of services to Jackson College’s Central and North Campus when classes are in session. Students needing assistance with a bus pass should contact the Center for Student Success. Free bus passes, offered in limited numbers, are provided on a monthly basis on a first-come first-serve basis.

Computer Refurbishment and Repair

Digital Inclusion

Digital Inclusion is a computer refurbishment and training program for youth.

    Digital Inclusion is a non-profit, 501c3 organization that trains youth to refurbish donated computers that could then be distributed back to the community. These refurbished computers can then be sold at affordable prices to the community. Training is available for Jackson College students, and refurbished computers and equipment are available for purchase. The office is located in William Atkinson Hall, Room 118.

The Center for Student Success offers a variety of support services to help all students achieve academic success.
