Home / Campus News / Auditions set Sept. 9-10 for comedy ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’
Jackson College invites students and community members to audition for the comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” by Christopher Durang, the fall production directed by theatre faculty member Sara Anne Tomczak. Auditions will be held Sept. 9–10, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Michael Baughman Theatre, Potter Center.
Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” is a wickedly funny comedy that reimagines Chekhov’s classic characters (“Uncle Vanya”) in a modern setting. In a quiet Pennsylvania farmhouse, middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia bicker, dream, and complain about their lives — until their glamorous movie-star sister Masha arrives with her new, much-younger boyfriend Spike. What follows is a hilarious, poignant story about family, change, and finding your place in the world.
All roles open to both students and community members, with diverse cast members welcome. Ages listed are stage ages, flexible for casting.
Performances will be Nov. 20-23 in the Michael Baughman Theatre. Visit the link below to sign up for an audition time and read more about the production. Please prepare a monologue from those provided; some may also be asked to perform a scene. There are also opportunities to serve in the technical crew.
