Parent Information

At Jackson College, parents and family are our partners in student success. With your help, we can help your student achieve their goals, develop their personal identity and prepare for life’s challenges.

Guests

The following requirements have been put into place in regards to guests within Student Housing. Student Housing also reserves the right to modify any residents’ guest privileges based on violation of guest policy or the concern and safety and/or well-being of the community.

Guests must be signed in and out at the front desk and must leave a picture ID, state-issued identification card, driver’s license, or military ID at the desk for the duration of their visit. Nonresident guests will be required to fill out a background information form. Information must be printed in a legible format. Failure to comply will result in refusal of entry.

Guests must be escorted by their host at all times. Guests are held to the same standard as each resident, and the person hosting the guest is responsible for ensuring they do not violate policies or disrupt the community. If policies are violated, the guest’s host will also be held responsible.

The resident host is responsible for all the actions of their guest while they are present in the residence halls. The host may be subject to disciplinary action when guests (while present in the residence halls) violate housing policies, Jackson College policies, or local laws.

Minor Guests

Residents are permitted to have guests under the age of 18 only during the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the written approval from a Housing professional staff member, 48 hours prior to the visit. All guests under the age of 18 must have completed the Permission Form for Minors in Housing including written permission from a parent or legal guardian. The resident host must supervise all guests under the age of 18 at all times. The Permission Form for Minors in Housing can be retrieved from the front desk of any Student Housing unit.

Number of Guests

Student Housing only allows for four guests per suite for each of the buildings with a maximum of two guests per person in the suite. The two-person restriction does not apply to parents or legal guardians who would like to bring in their children with them. For example, a parent with two children would be able to visit their resident living on campus without the two-person restriction applying to them.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that provides students with the right to review their education records, to request amendment of their records, to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information, and to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Education. Information regarding the rights of Jackson College students under FERPA is available on the JC Policy website. This information includes Jackson College procedures for reviewing and requesting amendment of education records, notice of the types of information the College has designated as directory information, and students’ right to withhold the release of their directory information. FERPA Release Form is found on Jackson College website or from the Student Services department.
