Home / Campus News / College presents hilarious stage comedy ‘Noises Off’ April 10–12
Get ready for a night of laughter as Jackson College brings one of the most celebrated comedies ever written, Noises Off, to the stage this April at the Potter Center.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 10–11, and 1 p.m. Sunday, April 12, in the Michael Baughman Theatre. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at: https://www.jccmi.edu/potter-center/events/noises-off/
Directed by Jackson College instructor Sara Anne Tomczak, the production features a cast and crew of approximately 35 students, community members and college staff. Rehearsals have been both challenging and exciting, Tomczak said, as the cast works to master the precise timing required for this fast-paced farce.
“Rehearsals have been an adventure,” Tomczak said. “With a set that requires seven doors and two floors, we’ve been working on a full ‘rehearsal set’ to build the precision this show needs. The actors aren’t just learning lines, they’re choreographing movement down to the second. Every entrance, exit and door slam has to be perfectly timed, and the two-level design adds another layer of complexity.”
Regarded as one of the greatest farces ever written, Noises Off! delivers rapid-fire humor and escalating chaos as it follows a theatre troupe attempting to stage a production that quickly goes off the rails—both onstage and behind the scenes.
“It is sharp, fast and incredibly funny,” Tomczak said. “I am usually laughing nonstop the entire rehearsal. I am thrilled for audiences to experience such a high level of comedy and dedication from our incredibly talented students and community members.”
Audience members can expect a high-energy, laugh-out-loud experience filled with physical comedy, slamming doors, missed cues and backstage antics. Each act builds on the chaos, delivering bigger laughs and more outrageous moments from start to finish.
The production is recommended for ages 13 and up. Tickets are $15 and are available from the Potter Center Box Office, 517.796.8600, or online at jccmi.edu/potter-center.
Called “the funniest farce ever written,” Noises Off presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Slamming doors, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious, high-energy comedy.
