Con Con Halloween edition to explore science behind ‘The Descent’

Join Jackson College and Jackson District Library for the Con Con Movie Series on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

The Con Con (Concatenation Convention) series brings the community together at the intersection of science and science fiction, where we explore what films get right and wrong about the natural world. For this Halloween edition, we’ll discuss the underground horror film “The Descent,” in which a group of spelunkers discovers that the darkness beneath the Earth holds more than geological secrets. Muhahaha.

Viewers can watch “The Descent” (Rated R) in advance via Hoopla with your JDL or Jackson College library access (watching in advance is suggested but not necessary; join the discussion, then watch later). Join online for an engaging discussion on cave ecosystems, human perception in extreme environments, and what real science reveals about the unknown worlds hidden below.
