Home / Campus News / Concert Band, Jazzy Jets present ‘Spooky Dissonances – Resolve!’ fall concert
Jackson College/Community Concert Band and Jazzy Jets will combine band and jazz favorites, popular music and Halloween-inspired selections for Spooky Dissonances – Resolve! on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.
This fall concert will build on a variety of musical styles, from Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might” to the spooky sounds of Morton Gould’s “Halloween” and music from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Other selections include “Ride of the Valkyries,” “Suite of Old American Dances,” “Zoot Suit Riot,” and “The Gallant Seventh” by John Philip Sousa. Vocalist Alana Tuckey, soprano with the Jackson Chorale and chair of Jackson College’s Mathematics Department, will join the performance. Retired Jackson College instrumental music faculty member Ron Douglass will guest conduct a piece as well.
Professor Dan Bickel, director of instrumental activities at Jackson College, directs the Concert Band and Jazzy Jets. The ensembles bring together college students and community musicians of various ages, creating opportunities for people to make music together.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Community musicians interested in joining the Concert Band are welcome. Rehearsals for the next cycle begin Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in Jackson College’s Instrumental Music Studio.
