Home / Campus News / Don’t miss ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ — a wickedly funny fall comedy with heart
Performances 7 p.m. Nov. 20-22, 1 p.m. Nov. 23
Jackson College’s Theatre Department invites audiences to laugh out loud this fall with its production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang — an absurd, clever, and completely modern comedy.
This hilarious story, inspired by the works of Chekhov, follows three siblings whose mundane lives are turned upside down when their glamorous sister returns home, bringing chaos — and her much younger boyfriend — in tow. Even their mysterious housekeeper, who claims to have prophetic powers, can’t seem to help. What follows is a fast-paced, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt story about family, hope, and the absurdity of modern life.
A total of 31 students, alumni and community members are involved as cast, understudies, and crew — showcasing the outstanding creativity and collaboration within the Jackson College theatre community.
“The whole company is working hard on this wickedly funny show,” said Theatre Instructor Sara Anne Tomczak. “Rehearsals have been incredibly fun, full of improv and comedic exploration that have truly brought the story to life. Our crew is equally busy designing and building the world of the play.”
Audiences ages 13 and older will enjoy this clever and contemporary comedy, filled with wit, warmth, and wildly entertaining characters.
“Jackson College’s theatre department is full of talented comedians and artists,” Tomczak added. “We can’t wait for you to join us for a night of laughter and fun!”
Performances will take place Nov. 20–23 in the Michael Baughman Theatre, Potter Center. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 and available from the Potter Center Box Office, online at www.jccmi.edu/potter-center, by phone at 517.796.8600, or at the door before each performance.
