Home / Campus News / JC, Ann Arbor Electrical JATC sign articulation agreement to support future electricians
Jackson College is excited to announce a new agreement with the Ann Arbor Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Center (AAEJATC), creating a seamless pathway for electrical apprentices to earn college credit toward an Electrician Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree at Jackson College.
This agreement formally recognizes the quality electrical training provided by AAEJATC and supports students who wish to continue their education while advancing in the skilled trades. Under the agreement, students who complete electrical training at AAEJATC may be eligible to receive articulated college credit by presenting appropriate certifications and successfully completed course grades. Even one or more completed courses may qualify for college credit.
“Our goal is to give students as many pathways to success as possible,” said Hope Salyer, office manager at the AAEJATC. “This articulation agreement gives our students the ability to work toward a college degree while progressing through our nationally recognized electrical apprenticeship program, creating even more opportunities for long-term career growth.”
The agreement is designed to provide flexibility and accessibility, allowing students to transition smoothly from hands-on electrical training into academic achievement at the college level — saving both time and money as they work toward a degree.
“Jackson College is committed to supporting workforce development and expanding opportunities for students in the trades,” said Dean of Workforce, Technical and Professional Education Jamie Vandenburgh. “This agreement reflects our belief in the value of apprenticeship training and lifelong learning, and it strengthens the pathway for future electricians to succeed both professionally and academically.”
Jackson College and AAEJATC believe that this collaboration will benefit students, employers, and the broader community by helping to meet workforce demands while elevating educational attainment in the skilled trades.
Depending on their courses and program, AAEJATC students may transfer between 16 and 19 credits. Jackson College offers a 60-credit Associate of Applied Science or a 30-credit Electrician Certificate. Students may continue with an apprenticeship program to achieve journeyman status.
