Marla is a people-focused executive with more than 25 years of progressive leadership experience advancing organizational performance through talent development, workforce strategy, employee engagement, and organizational culture across healthcare, higher education, and municipal organizations. Throughout her career, she has been committed to creating workplace environments where employees can thrive, recognizing that organizational success begins with investing in people.
Most recently, Marla served as Executive Director of Human Resources at Oaklawn Hospital, where she led the organization’s human resources strategy for nine years. During her tenure, she achieved significant results, including reducing employee turnover to levels below healthcare industry benchmarks and transforming employee experience by increasing HR customer satisfaction from 17% to 96% in just three months. Her leadership philosophy centers on building trust, fostering accountability, and creating meaningful opportunities for employees to grow and succeed.
Marla’s educational background reflects her lifelong commitment to learning and professional development. She holds a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Purdue Global University, a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development from Eastern Michigan University, and an MBA Certificate in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development from Eastern Michigan University.
Raised on a small horse farm in Southeast Michigan, Marla learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and service from an early age. Those principles continued to shape her path as she proudly served in the United States Army before making the selfless decision to leave military service to care for an elderly grandparent. While balancing work, higher education, and raising her two children, she continued to build a successful career in human resources driven by a passion for helping others reach their full potential.
Today, Marla is known for her authentic leadership style, strategic mindset, and unwavering dedication to employee success. She believes that when organizations invest in their people, both employees and communities’ benefit, creating stronger workplaces and lasting organizational impact.
