Internships
The Work-Based Learning Program at Jackson College is an academic program where students earn academic credit and learn to apply classroom skills while establishing professional contacts with employers on the job. Students who participate must meet the eligibility requirements determined by faculty within their chosen program of study.
Internship Deadlines for the 2021/2022 Academic Year
All internship paperwork must be fully finalized by the following dates:

SPRING 2022 | 15 week course – DECEMBER 23rd 7 week course – MARCH 7th |
SUMMER 2022 | 12 week course – MAY 2nd 7 week course – MAY 31st |
Eligibility Criteria
Students interested in participating in the Work-Based Learning Program for credit must meet the following criteria:
- Students must be designated part of a degree program.
- Students must have completed all prerequisites required by their program of study
- Students must have the consent of the program’s internship faculty member and submitted all necessary paperwork to the Work-Based Learning Coordinator prior to registering for the internship course.
*This policy does not apply to students in Allied Health or Nursing Programs.*
** International Students must have DSO approval before beginning an internship. **
Internship Process
Semester Before
- Student completes work-based learning application, letting both faculty and work-based learning coordinator know that they intend to begin their search for a position.
- Student meets with work-based learning coordinator to discuss resources and contacts
- Student begins application/interview process (please remember, it is the responsibility of the student to obtain a position)
Once a Position is Obtained
- Student fills out learning agreement with supervisor; includes learning objectives
- Site visit is completed to check suitability
- Student is registered for work-based learning class
During Internship
- Students maintain weekly contact with faculty
- Student notifies work-based learning coordinator when they have reached their halfway point to initiate a mid semester check
- Student notifies work-based learning coordinator when they have completed the required hours
- Supervisor fills out final evaluation and submits it to the faculty member
- Student submits all required assignments as determined by faculty member
After Internship
- Student and employer complete work-based learning survey
