Experience the wonder of a Lunar Eclipse on Aug. 27

Spend an evening under the stars as Jackson College invites the community to witness one of nature’s most fascinating celestial events — a partial lunar eclipse — on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The Jackson College Astronomical Observatory will be open from sunset until 1 a.m., giving visitors plenty of time to watch the moon gradually move into Earth’s shadow. As the eclipse unfolds, the moon will appear to darken, offering a spectacular sight visible without special equipment.

Guests are welcome to stop by throughout the evening to enjoy telescope views of the eclipse, learn more about how lunar eclipses occur, and experience the night sky with fellow astronomy enthusiasts.  Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is completely safe to view with the naked eye. Binoculars or telescopes can provide an even closer look at the moon’s changing appearance as it passes through Earth’s shadow.
