About the Program

Jackson College’s Emergency Medical Services program equips students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to perform life-saving interventions in pre-hospital settings. Students will develop essential skills in patient assessment, trauma care, airway management, and emergency response techniques. The program prepares graduates for national certification and state licensure, with opportunities to specialize in various emergency medical fields. Coursework is delivered in a hybrid format, combining online instruction with hands-on practice in Jackson College’s state-of-the-art simulation lab and driving simulator.

Emergency Medical Technician Basic

Prepares students to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages. Covers emergency medical systems, trauma and medical emergencies, and patient transport.

Emergency Medical Responder

Covers skills required to be a first responder at the scene of a medical emergency. Includes CPR, first aid, patient assessment, and trauma care.

Human Biology

Explores fundamental concepts of human biology including cell structure, body systems, genetics, health, and disease with an emphasis on real-world application.

EKG Technician

Introduces the principles and techniques of electrocardiography. Students learn to record and interpret EKGs, focusing on safety, patient care, and rhythm analysis.

Career Outlook

Students who earn the Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certificate will be prepared for entry-level positions as emergency medical technicians, responding to 911 calls, providing first-line medical care, and transporting patients to medical facilities. This program prepares students for the National Registry EMT exam, a requirement for state licensure.
