Associate Degree (AAS-N)

1. Apply to Jackson College

Submit a completed Jackson College application. Be sure to select Nursing – Associate in Applied Science as your program of study. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.

2. Meet with a Student Success Navigator

After applying, you will receive an email with further instructions, including how to schedule an appointment with a Student Success Navigator. During this appointment, you will:

• Help you develop an academic plan
• Review prerequisite and foundational course requirements
• Guide you through the admission process and timeline

3. Complete Placement Assessments

As directed by your navigator, complete placement assessments in writing, reading, and math. These results will help determine your readiness for required coursework. Students with limited science backgrounds may need to take additional preparatory courses.

4. Submit Official Transcripts

Send official transcripts from all previously attended colleges to the Jackson College Records Office. Use the National Student Clearinghouse for transcript requests.

• Fall Applicants: Transcripts due by May 31
• Spring Applicants: Transcripts due by October 1

It is your responsibility to confirm that transcripts have been received by the deadline.

5. Complete Required Coursework

To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following course requirements:

• BIO 253 – Human Anatomy & Physiology I: Completed with a 2.5 or higher by the application deadline
• BIO 254 – Human Anatomy & Physiology II: Must be completed with a 2.5 or higher before starting the program (if not completed at time of application)
• CEM 131 – Fundamentals of Chemistry and MAT 133 – Introduction to Probability & Statistics (or higher): Completed or in progress with a 2.0 or higher
• ENG 131 – English Composition I: Must be completed before or during Semester 1, Level 1
• PSY 130 – Introduction to Psychology: Must be completed before or during Semester 3, Level 3
• GEO #6 (General Education Outcome): Must be completed before or during Semester 4, Level 3

Only courses with final grades at the time of application will be used in the admissions point calculation. Students with no course withdrawals, repeats, or failures are more likely to be selected.

6. Take the Kaplan Admissions Assessment Test

You must complete the Kaplan Admissions Test with a minimum composite score of 62% to be eligible for additional admission points. The test must be completed within the last five years and by the application deadline:

• Fall Applicants: May 31
• Spring Applicants: October 1

You are allowed two attempts, with a 30-day remediation period between them. See the Jackson College Nursing website for full Kaplan testing policies and sign-up instructions.

7. Complete and Submit the AAS-N Program Application

Once you have completed the required coursework and Kaplan test, your Student Success Navigator will review your eligibility and assist you in completing the secondary AAS-N program application.

Important: Your navigator will electronically submit the signed application to the Nursing Coordinator’s Office. You and your navigator will receive a confirmation email once it has been submitted.

8. Meet Technical Standards

You must meet the Technical Standards for Admission as outlined in the nursing program packet. These include physical, cognitive, and behavioral abilities essential for safe and effective nursing practice.
