Admission Process

Admission to the Respiratory Therapy program at Jackson College is competitive and requires careful planning. Below are the steps and specific requirements you must follow to be considered for entry into the program.

1. Apply to Jackson College

Submit a completed Jackson College application. Be sure to select Respiratory Therapy – Associate in Applied Science as your program of study. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.

2. Meet with a Student Success Navigator

After applying, you will receive an email with further instructions, including how to schedule an appointment with a Student Success Navigator. During this appointment, you will:

  • Help you develop an academic plan
  • Review prerequisite and foundational course requirements
  • Guide you through the admission process and timeline

3. Submit Official Transcripts

Send official transcripts from all previously attended colleges to the Jackson College Records Office. Use the National Student Clearinghouse for transcript requests.

  • Transcripts due by Nov. 15

Failure to have all transcripts submitted by the application deadline to Jackson College may result in an incomplete Respiratory Therapy application. An incomplete application may result in the denial of admission to this program.

4. Complete Prerequisite Courses

To be eligible to apply to the Respiratory Therapy program, you must meet the following course requirements:

  • BIO 132 or both BIO 253 and BIO 254 (2.5 GPA or higher)
  • MAT 130 or above (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • ENG 131 or above (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • GEO 2, GEO 5, and GEO 6 courses

5. Complete and Submit the Respiratory Therapy Application

Once you have completed the required coursework, your Student Success Navigator will review your eligibility and assist you in completing the Respiratory Therapy Application.

Important: Your navigator will electronically submit the signed application. You and your navigator will receive a confirmation email once it has been submitted.

6. Meet Technical Standards

You must meet the Technical Standards for Admission as outlined in the Respiratory Therapy packet. These include physical, cognitive, and behavioral abilities essential for safe and effective practice.
