Area teachers and community members looking to expand their advanced manufacturing knowledge are invited to participate in Free CNC Fridays at Jackson College this summer. The free, hands-on training introduces participants to computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer numerical control (CNC) machining while earning credit toward certification.

The workshops will be held Friday, July 10, 17, 24, 31, and Aug. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the STEAM Factory on Jackson College’s Central Campus.

Designed especially for K-12 and career and technical education (CTE) teachers, the training is also open to anyone interested in learning more about CNC manufacturing and advanced manufacturing technologies. Thanks to support from the National Science Foundation grant, there is no cost to attend.

Participants will:

• Explore the complete manufacturing workflow from design to finished product.
• Learn the basics of SolidWorks CAD, CAM software and CNC machining.
• See CNC machines and 3D printers in action.
• Take home a pre-made Titan-1M project.
