College invites community to Geminids Meteor Shower Watch Party, Dec. 13

Jackson College welcomes community members to experience one of the year’s most dazzling night-sky events during a Geminids Meteor Shower Watch Party, set for Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the College’s observatory.

The Geminids meteor shower is considered one of the most active and reliable annual meteor showers, producing up to 120 bright, fast meteors per hour under ideal conditions. First observed in the mid-1800s with just a handful of meteors per hour, the Geminids have grown into a major celestial event known for their vibrant yellow streaks lighting up the winter sky.

This free, drop-in event welcomes guests of all ages. While the observatory telescope will not be operating, the building will be open and heated, offering a warm space to take a break from the cold. Hot chocolate will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and blanket to enjoy the sky comfortably.

Please note:

Be respectful of others and leave spaces in the L Lot open for handicap parking. Ample parking is available in M2 and P1 lots. Dress warmly and prepare for winter conditions. Join us for an unforgettable night under the stars.
