About the Program

The General Sonography program at Jackson College combines classroom learning, laboratory work, and clinical practice to give students a comprehensive education. Students will learn essential sonographic techniques used in both abdominal and obstetric/gynecologic imaging. This hands-on approach allows students to develop both the technical and diagnostic skills needed to succeed in the field of sonography. The program is designed to prepare students for a career in a dynamic and rapidly growing healthcare field. Graduates will be well-prepared for positions in hospitals, medical clinics, diagnostic imaging centers, and other healthcare settings.

Comprehensive Sonography

This course includes advanced scanning practices with introduction to cardiac, peripheral vascular, neurosonography, breast, prostate and musculoskeletal scanning. Invasive procedures and intraoperative scanning protocols and techniques will be enhanced upon. Opportunity and aid are given for ARDMS board applications. Extensive review of all facets of sonography is included in preparation for the ARDMS board exams.

Abdomen and Small Parts Sonography

Covers anatomy, physiology, and pathology of abdominal organs and small parts. Includes sonographic techniques and image interpretation.

Introduction to Sonographic Instrumentation

Covers ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Topics include transducers, sound waves, Doppler, bioeffects, and image production.

Obstetric and Gynecologic Sonography

Focuses on anatomy and pathology of female reproductive organs and developing fetus. Includes normal and abnormal findings and scanning techniques.
