Jackson College Announces Winner of 2025 Jets Studio Art Contest

“The Last Show” by Alexander Thomasson Captures the Spirit of the Stage

Now prominently featured on the wall inside Jets Studio, The Last Show offers a striking portrayal of the emotional complexity backstage during a final theatrical performance. Originally captured as a photograph on the closing night of the college production “Puffs,” the piece was transformed into a painting that blends technical precision with emotional resonance.

The judging panel selected this work for its ability to reflect a meaningful campus experience and the emotional journey of student performers. The painting stands as a tribute to artistic expression, the power of storytelling, and the intensity of creative commitment.

“This piece truly honors the dedication and energy that students bring to both the stage and the canvas,” said Sonja L. Howell, PhD, instructional designer and developer at Jackson College. “It captures a moment that many can relate to — where preparation, pressure and pride intersect.”

Special thanks to the judging panel, Jackson College faculty members:

  • Daniel Bickel
  • Christie Hughes
  • Holly Taylor
