Home / Campus News / Jazzy Jets welcome U.S. Army National Guard musicians
The Jackson College Jazzy Jets welcomed a special musical guest on Feb. 26, as the U.S. Army National Guard’s “Jazz Guardians” visited campus for an engaging performance and conversation.
Led by Joe May and Nicole Higgs—Addison Band Director and saxophonist with the Jackson College Community Concert Band—the ensemble performed five selections while also sharing their personal journeys as musicians in the armed forces. Students had the unique opportunity to rehearse briefly with Joe May prior to the performance, adding an extra layer of excitement to the visit.
Following the performance, members of the Jazz Guardians spent more than an hour in discussion with Jackson College students, dual-enrolled students, and community members, answering questions and offering insight into military music careers. The visit sparked meaningful conversation and left students inspired by both the musicianship and service of the ensemble.
