JC, GVSU expand healthcare pathways with new articulation agreement

Jackson College and Grand Valley State University signed an agreement on Thursday formalizing a new articulation agreement that will expand educational pathways for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

Through this partnership, students who complete the Medical Assistant Certificate at JC will have a seamless transfer pathway into the Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Sciences with an emphasis in Pre‑Physician Assistant Studies at Grand Valley State University. Physician assistants are licensed healthcare professionals who practice medicine across all specialties, collaborating with doctors to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication.

This agreement ensures that students can transition efficiently between institutions while maximizing transfer credits and minimizing duplication of coursework. By aligning curricula and strengthening collaboration between institutions, the partnership supports student success and helps prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals for advanced clinical careers.

“Today we take another proud step forward, formalizing our collaboration around allied health sciences,” said Dr. Kara Van Dam, vice president and chief executive, Grand Valley State University Omni. “We know there are students across the state who are seeking opportunity.”

Students interested in the healthcare field can speak with a student success navigator or contact the Medical Assistant program.

“Students can complete the Medical Assistant Certificate and let us know they are interested in the GVSU pre‑physician assistant program,” said Dr. Kristin Black, dean of Business Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Corrections Education.
