JC welcomes NASA heliophysicist for public talk on solar physics, space weather

Jackson College invites students, staff and the community to a special presentation by noted scientist, heliophysicist Dr. Rebecca Robinson on Wednesday, March 18, from 6–8 p.m. in Bert Walker Hall, Community Rooms 144–145.

Dr. Robinson will share insights into solar physics, space weather, and NASA’s Multi-slit Solar Explorer (MUSE) Mission, an upcoming project advancing our understanding of the sun’s dynamic atmosphere. She will discuss the science behind solar activity, how space weather affects life and technology on Earth, and what the upcoming NASA MUSE mission will reveal.

A Michigan native who now calls Norway home, Robinson brings a rich and diverse scientific background. She studies the sun’s atmosphere and serves as the Outreach Lead for NASA’s MUSE team, helping communicate groundbreaking research to the public. Her career includes experiences as varied as serving as the resident astrophysicist for Badlands National Park, drilling ice cores on Icelandic glaciers, sailing the Norwegian coast as a solar and aurora researcher, analyzing magnetic field simulations of the sun, and working with the SETI Institute in California.

Attendees may enjoy light refreshments and ample time for questions and discussion following the presentation.
