Making a list and checking it twice: What you need for a smooth move in on campus.

August 1, 2023

The calendar is getting closer to the start of the fall semester at Jackson College. Move in day for residents is set for Aug. 25. If you are planning on being a resident on campus, do you have everything you need to set you up for success?

According to Director of Residence Life Hunter Causie, students need to make sure they are double checking their to-do lists.

“Starting with the housing application, enrolling in their 12 credits, making sure they complete their background check within 60 days of their move-in and making sure they have their high school transcript on file if applicable. If they’re returning, they don’t need that,” he said. “Lastly it would be the deposit that should be the only thing up in the air right now for some students. They may be paying it the day they arrive on campus. They may be paying it the day they arrive on campus. They may be saving up to pay it next week, whatever it may be but that’s pretty much the only thing that should be left.”

Causie says the background check application is a very important step to take to ensure your move in process is as smooth as possible. Our website provides an easy way to walk you through each step.

“Once they complete the housing application, there’s a link that pops up right after that. It will have, really, every step that needs to be completed to be able to secure your housing spot,” he said. “Click on the viewpoint screening link and it’s pretty self-explanatory, pay the $35 once they submit it, they get a confirmation e-mail and then it’s just a matter of waiting at that point.”

 Welcome Week

Welcome Week kicks off Aug. 28 and runs through Aug. 31 packed with events. Highlights include movie night at the Jets Hangar on Monday night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Residents can enjoy an escape room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bert Walker Hall followed by laser tag at the Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse which is happening Tuesday. On Wednesday there will be a bonfire from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It culminates with a campus party Thursday at Jets Hangar from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“We’ll have the Joystick Mobile Video Gaming trailer come out which is a Jackson community local, a DJ, food with a taco bar, dancing and just fun activities going on,” Causie said.

All events are free to students. A Jackson College ID is required.

If you are interested in living on campus, Causie says they are still accepting applications. They close Aug. 11.
