Jennifer Way completed the medical coder-biller program last fall, finishing through the Michigan Reconnect initiative. Although she’d long been interested in the medical field, she knew direct patient care wasn’t for her. After taking an online career assessment, medical coding appeared as a strong match for her skills and personality — and with Reconnect support, it felt like the perfect fit.

For the past 30 years, she’s also worked as a hairdresser. Returning to college this time was a completely different experience. Living near the Ohio border in Hillsdale County, she appreciated the convenience of a fully online, self-paced CBE program.

“I was able to spend my days off heavily involved in my schoolwork. Days when I did work, I could do a little before or after work,” Way said. “The instructors were prompt with getting back with me. It’s a really smooth program.”
Since February, Way has worked for a medical office in Jonesville and feels well prepared by her training. She highly recommends the program and plans to continue earning additional certifications through JC.
