Potter Outstanding Student Award is presented annually to one exceptional student at Jackson College. The recipient will receive a $1,000 JC Scholarship or a cash award, their choice. The student is selected based on the following criteria: Personal Qualities: Positive attitude, pride in the school, exemplifies the mission values and beliefs of the college Performance: Minimum 3.0 GPA and 30 credit hours, college involvement with positive impact, community involvement with positive impact Leadership: Leadership in the college or the community 2025 Recipient Kaylona Butler Kaylona Butler, a sophomore student-athlete from Toledo, Ohio, found her way to Jackson College after she was recruited by basketball Coach Heather Brown, who impressed her with genuine concern beyond athletics. Kaylona will graduate in May with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration. She appreciates the College’s many opportunities and has been involved in Sisters of Strength, Writing Fellows, Heritage Center, and as a resident assistant. With a strong Christian faith, she thanks Jesus Christ for guiding her in all her activities and attends Jackson’s Lily Missionary Baptist Church. A soon-to-be first-generation college graduate, she plans to transfer to complete her bachelor’s degree while continuing her athletic career. Congratulations, Kaylona! Outstanding Student Nomination Form Nomination Criteria Any full-time Jackson College student meeting the criteria is eligible for nomination. Nominations can be made by any JC employee, student, or board member and must address the specified criteria with detailed reasons for the nomination.
