Home / Digital Accessibility / Training & Support / Grackle Accesssibility Suite Grackle Grackle is a suite of accessibility checkers that helps you identify and fix common accessibility issues before publishing or sharing your documents. Jackson College has a college-wide Grackle license available to all employees with a Jackson College username and email address. Get Started Grackle is available for: Google Docs – Check and improve document accessibility. Google Slides – Create more accessible presentations. Google Sheets – Identify and fix accessibility issues in spreadsheets. Created your document in Microsoft Office? You can still use Grackle. Upload your Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel file to Google Drive and open it in the corresponding Google application (Google Docs, Google Slides, or Google Sheets). Then run Grackle to identify accessibility issues. After making your updates, you can export an accessible PDF or apply the same changes back to your original Microsoft Office document if needed. Grackle Worspace Walkthrough This YouTube video provides a quick walkthrough of the Grackle Workspace and demonstrates how to use Grackle to identify and fix common accessibility issues in Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets. You’ll learn how to launch the tool, understand the accessibility check results, and make improvements before exporting your document. view video How to install Grackle Install the Grackle Add-ons Install Grackle Docs Install Grackle Slides Install Grackle Sheets For each format, do the following: Open a new or existing document Choose Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons Select the Grackle option Click on the Install button When a popup window appears, choose Continue Select your Jackson College Google username and password In the Signin popup, choose Continue In the Permissions window, choose Allow When Grackle finishes installing, it will give you a popup window letting you know how to access the version of Grackle for the Google app you are using. How to run Grackle For each format, do the following: Go to Extensions > Grackle From the submenu, choose Launch Grackle will immediately begin to check your document based on multiple types of elements (e.g., Presentation, Slides, Tables, Elements, and Contents for Grackle Slides) If any errors are found, a number will appear to the right of the element header. For specific criteria that have errors, a red “Warning” icon will appear on top of a checkmark. Click on the checkmark for more information and/or tools to fix the issue. Sometimes this will be straightforward. When you have fixed the issues, click on the “Re-Check” button at the top of the Grackle window to verify fixes.
