Jackson College’s Business Administration programs offer flexible options for students seeking a broad-based business education, providing pathways for a comprehensive business education. Whether your goal is to enter the workforce directly or plan to transfer to a four-year institution, you’ll develop core competencies in management, gain essential skills in finance, marketing, and communication. Students may pursue an Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Arts, or earn a Business Management Certificate, all of which are designed to meet both industry and academic transfer needs.

Principles of Accounting I

A study of accounting concepts and their application to the accounting cycle. Topics include analyzing business transactions, journalizing and posting entries, preparing worksheets and financial statements, and closing the books.

Human Resource Management

An overview of human resource management including recruitment, selection, training, performance evaluation, compensation, labor relations, and legal issues. Emphasizes practical application of human resource principles.

Principles of Management

This course is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge of basic management
principles for business organizations. An overview of the principles, concepts, and theories underlying the management discipline will be examined. Students will explore the four universal functions of management which are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Current organizational trends in management and the approaches for planning, creating, and transmitting business information within a variety of business situations found in the global marketplace will also be examined. Finally, students will develop foundational skills to effectively manage globalization and change in technology.

Strategic Business Management

Introduces students to basic business concepts and practices including management, marketing, human resources, finance, operations, ethics, and the global economy. Emphasizes teamwork and communication skills.

Introduction to Computer Systems

Provides an overview of computer hardware, software, and applications. Topics include operating systems, file management, internet tools, and basic business applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Leadership

Both knowledge and behavior contribute to effective leadership skills needed to enhance the
contribution of your team. Students explore topics including shared vision and values, team building, and decision making. You will study leadership theory in ways that encourage the development of your leadership skills, including effective use of power and influence, motivational tools, personality assessment, team communication, role modeling and performance appraisals.
