Fundamentals of Organic & Biological Chemistry

This course is an extension of material covered in CEM 131. It is required in many bachelors degree programs, including nursing. Organic topics include the structure, physical properties and chemical behavior of the major classes of organic compounds. The structure, function, formation and reactions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and nucleic acids are covered, including enzymes, chemical messengers, and biochemical energy production. Course includes a laboratory component.
