Jackson Rose Run celebrates 53rd year; returns to Jets Hangar Saturday

It’s the 53rd annual Jackson Rose Run this Saturday. As people walk and run their way through the scenery a large portion of the proceeds will go towards the Jackson College Women’s Soccer team.

The Rose Run starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Jackson College Jets Hangar.

Head Coach Andy Hosmer says the proceeds will go towards equipment, gear and potentially some field maintenance.

“This is one of the crown jewels of running opportunities in the Jackson area in my personal opinion,” he said. “I’m biased of course because we’re the ones putting it on here but it’s a great opportunity to get people out here on campus and see everything that we have going on. There’s always something going on here at Jackson College.”

As for the upcoming season which starts Aug 1., Head Coach Andy Hosmer is feeling excited.

“I’ve worked really hard on recruiting and I think we’re going to have a very talented group but we also compete in a very, very challenging region. It’s one of the top regions in the country,” Hosmer said. “The goal is to make it to Nationals and make some noise there like the softball teams have been doing the last couple years.”

If you are interested in participating in the Rose Run, you can still sign up. Races include a 5k run/walk, 10k run and a 10-mile run.

It costs $30 for any of the races. Kids run for free. You can sign up all the way to race day. Friday it goes up to $40 to register.

The weather forecast for Saturday looks great with sunny skies, warm temperatures and light winds.

At the end of the event there will be some light food and water for the runners.
